Triennial Report 2004 to 2007

The GSBS Medical Trust is a charitable Trust operating in Central Mumbai in the service of all needy citizens irrespective of caste or creed. The Trust is a non-communal body registered under the Charity Commissioner offering diagnostic services and treatment to needy patients at exceedingly reasonable rates (about half the cost of the same in a private set-up). While doing so, the Trust is committed to maintain quality of care delivered in a good ambience with pleasant service.

Market Presence:

The Trust operates three diagnostic Centres in Central Mumbai two at Dadar (East) and one at Dharavi. The three Centres are very well situated near the railway stations at Dadar and Sion making it convenient for the patients to commute to the Centres even from far off places such as Virar and Navi Mumbai. On an average day, over 200 patients visit the Centres for various consultations with doctors and/or undergoing various medical tests for diagnoses. The Centres are visited by nearly 100 Consultants with post graduate and post doctoral superspeciality qualifications in various branches of Medicine and Surgery.

The Original Centre.

The Original Centre at Shilpa Apartment at Dasturwadi, Dadar has specialist Consultants in General Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Dermatology and Psychiatry. It also has a General Dentistry Department and an Imaging Department with state-of-the-art digitalized X-ray and Sonography machines. was where the nascent diagnostic centre was established. However, with the pressure of patients building up over the years it was felt necessary to form a separate Trust to handle the situation. Thus the Medical Trust was born in 1973.

Pathology Department: The Pathology Department at Unit I is comparable to any super commercial setup in the city. The Bio-Merieux Blood Analyzer gives 16 parameters in 60 seconds flat with a high degree of accuracy. The automated ESR analyzer from Ranbaxy is a high precision equipment eliminating all human errors in readings. In the department of biochemistry, the Trust has two semi automated analyzers from Merck of Germany to keep up the level of excellence. The emphasis is also on quality. The laboratory has an accreditation from the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists of Varanasi (IAPM) which certifies the level of quality through its external quality assurance programme from time to time. In addition, the laboratory has a self regulating quality control mechanism in place, running controlled sample sera each day to ensure precision of results.

X-ray Department: This is one of the oldest departments at the Centre. It handles both routine as well as procedural X-rays such as Barium meal, Hysterosalpinography, Miturating Cysto-urethrogram, Sinusogram, Fistulogram, Retrograde Ureterogram etc. With the acquisition of Image Intensifier TV (IITV) at considerable cost there is significant augmentation in the capabilities. These services are increasingly being used by the medical fraternity around Dadar for diagnostic purposes.

Superspeciality Centre

The Superspeciality Centre of the Trust inaugurated in January 2002, has created a niche of its own in the area of speciality investigations. This unit was planned to reflect the commitment of the Trust Management to bring up the Centre to be abreast with fast moving technologies in the investigative field. Accordingly, the Centre has in place Ultrasonography, 2D Echocardiography with Colour Doppler, Stress Test, Mammography, X-ray, ECG, EEG, Orthopantomography, Lateral Cephalogram and Audiometry.

With multinational corporates introducing newer and more sophisticated range of equipment, the Trust has always struck meaningful "exchange deals" with them to achieve economy and excellence in one stroke. General Electric's Logiq PRO 500 Ultrasonography / 2 D Echo Cardiogram machine was thus exchanged for the current generation equipment of their range namely PRO-5. The equipment came with a Paediatric Probe, which now enables the Centre to investigate heart problems among children.

During the period under review, the Superspeciality Centre also received a largesse in the form of a "Colonoscope" from Dr. Pravin Mehta Trust. Thus with the possession of a gastroscope and a colonoscope, the Trust can now boast of being equipped to investigate the entire G.I. tract.

The Consulting faculty at the Superspeciality Centre remains its strength with specialists empanelled in all branches of Medicine and Surgery such as Cardiology, Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Nephrology and Urosurgery, Gastroenterology and Gastrosurgery, Paediatric Surgery and Paediatric Uro-surgery, Colo-rectal Surgery, Onco-surgery and Plastic Surgery. In speciality dentistry there are specialist surgeons to handle Endodontia, Orthodontia, Periodontia, Prosthodontia and Maxillo Facial, Oral and Aesthetic Surgeries. All these are at the service of the public at just one-third the prices prevailing in the market.

With credentials so well-fortified, the Superspeciality Centre has been able to maintain a pride of place in the field of corporate health check-ups and pre-insurance medical check-ups.
