The Trust’s Centres are ideally
centrally located within a stone-throw from the Central
Railway’s Dadar station. The Superspeciality Centre is by
far one of the few charitable diagnostic Centres offering
such a wide range of superspeciality consultations and
sophisticated tests under one roof at extremely reasonable
rates.
The
Original Centre at Dasturwadi, Dadar, with a floor area
of 1600 sq. ft has to be changed, Digitalised X-ray unit with IITV, a basic Dentistry facility
with a Dental lab, a Physiotherapy department open to public
for 11 hours in a day. All the 3 Centres outsource CT Scan
and MRI facilities at extremely economic at rates and has
tie-up deals with nursing homes nearby for admission
facilities for operations.
Humble Start:
The GSBS Trust has come from very humble
beginnings. It started as an offshoot of a cultural and
social organization called the Gowd Saraswat Brahman Sabha
of Matunga, Mumbai. The enthusiasm of the few individuals
connected with the Sabha resulted in what was then called a
medical service wing of the Sabha in 1967 They started by
offering free immunizations in the Office premises of the
Sabha. Later the head of the Parthagali Math of Gokarn
allowed these service activities to be conducted within
their premises in the Dwarakanath Bhavan, Wadala free of
rent. This was where the nascent diagnostic centre was
established. However, with the pressure of patients building
up over the years it was felt necessary to form a separate
Trust to handle the situation. Thus the Medical Trust was
born in 1973.
The
pioneering group of founding Trustees viz: Dr. A.P. Pai, Dr.
V.R. Prabhu, Dr. K.V. Pai, Dr. B.M. Acharya, Mr. A.M.
Kamath, Mr. K.K. Kamath,
Mr. H. Anandrao and Mr. N.K. Gaitonde was full of verve and
vigour to push the project forward on its path of success.
The goal was clear and the way to it was well defined. The
diagnostic service had to be of the highest quality and this
necessitated empanelment of well qualified and experienced
consultants from almost all branches. An X-ray unit was
installed, a fully equipped Pathology department was set up
and a dental section was opened. The result was a free flow
of poor and needy patients looking for a reliable place for
medical diagnosis and treatment. Hard work and dedication
started paying off and the footfall gradually increased over
the years. Soon the Trust decided to have its own premises
and purchased property at Shilpa Apartment at Dasturwadi in
Dadar. It has since gone on from strength to strength and
never looked back.
The
initial years of operation also encouraged many
liberal-minded individuals to lend their helping hand.
Sizeable donations poured in at the right junctures and
helped the Trust to equip many of its departments with
modern machines.
