To fulfill one
of its main objectives, the Trust decided to move out
horizontally into an underprivileged area and thus
successfully established a spacious Centre at Dharavi, once
called the Asia’s
largest slum conglomeration. This Centre aims to cater to
the poorer sections and has facilities for X-ray,
Ultrasonography and Pathology apart from consulting faculty
in almost all the branches of Medicine and Surgery. The
Centre also serves as a nodal point for free municipal
services such as BCG, Triple, MMR, Measles and Hepatitis B.
The Trust has plans to work out some arrangement for
distribution of free TB drugs under the Government’s DOTS
scheme.
The
Board of Trustees and its deliberations
A
A)
As per the
norms, the Trustees submitted their rotational retirement
offers at the end of their terms and agreed to work on the
Board, if nominated.
B) The
Board of Trustees met six times during 2004-2005, eight
times during 2005-2006 and six times during 2006-2007.
The Trust
had long cherished a thought of reaching out to such areas
of the city as inhabitated by the underprivileged. In this
case, which area could be better suited than Dharavi, once
known as the Asia’s largest slum conglomerate! March 2006,
saw the opening of the Dharavi Centre and the event marked a
milestone in the Trust’s journey towards achievement of an
important objective of rendering medical diagnostic service
to the poor people at very economical rates.
The Centre
has Pathology, X-ray, Ultrasonography and Consultation
faculties in all important branches of Medicine and Surgery.
